BSSID compared to SSID

In what ways would you describe a BSSID as being different to an SSID. Furthermore, how do they each interact with an AP?

From what I am getting, a BSSID is dependent on the AP and you can have multiple different APs with different BSSIDs which are used for a single SSID.

Would you agree with the above statement, or do you think I'm reading into it differently?
